WWF WrestleMania on NES, published by Acclaim and released in 1989, is the first licensed WWF title to reach home consoles. The label art puts it plainly: Hulk Hogan center frame, yellow shirt mid-rip, arena lights breaking behind him, blue ring ropes framing the whole composition. That image was the promise of the WWF in its full late-1980s peak, pressed into a standard gray cartridge.
1989 was not a quiet year for the WWF. WrestleMania V had just run at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, Hogan taking the title back from Randy Savage in the main event and capping the Mega Powers feud that the company had been building for the better part of a calendar year. The roster on the cart matches the moment: Hogan, Andre the Giant, the Million Dollar Man, the Honky Tonk Man, the Intercontinental picture deep with recognizable characters. Acclaim had the WWF license and moved fast to get product in front of the Nintendo audience. This was the NES at its commercial ceiling, the console installed in roughly a third of American homes by that point, and the WWF was operating at a ratings and pay-per-view peak to match. The two franchises arrived in the same retail space the same way they dominated the same living rooms. Combat gameplay was simple by design, wrestling mechanics stripped to the essentials, but the names on the screen were real, and in 1989 those names carried genuine weight.

This copy presents as the standard cartridge without box or manual, which is the configuration most of these moved through once they cleared the original shelf and hit the secondary market. The label shows the Hogan art intact with no heavy peeling or water damage visible. Color saturation on late-1980s Acclaim labels runs warm on originals and tends to fade or dull on copies that spent years in direct light. Check the label edges at the cartridge seam where adhesive lifting typically starts first on copies this age.
