The "Jerry Maguire" VHS is the original Sony Pictures home video release, red-bordered sleeve, Tom Cruise's profile shot dead center, mid-to-late 1990s pressing. Cameron Crowe wrote and directed. Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr., Renee Zellweger, and Kelly Preston. One of the last pure sports-drama scripts before the genre calcified into formula, and it got the cast and the studio behind it to make it stick.
Sony released "Jerry Maguire" theatrically in December 1996, and the VHS came into wide retail distribution in the spring of 1997. That window puts this tape in the middle of the era when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment was moving serious volume on marquee titles, big cardboard sleeve, full retail shrink on new copies, rental-grade transfer on the first duplication runs. Cuba Gooding Jr. took Best Supporting Actor at the 1997 Oscars. The film went in with five nominations total including Best Picture, Original Screenplay, and Film Editing. Cruise was nominated for Lead Actor. It lost Best Picture to "The English Patient" but the cultural weight of that awards cycle was real, and the home video run that followed moved a lot of units. A copy in solid shape from that original retail run is not easy to find clean anymore. Most of what surfaces now comes out of rental store liquidations, and those copies carry the sticker damage to prove it.

This copy carries the standard Sony clamshell-style sleeve construction of the period. The red border treatment on the front is the original theatrical key art, not the reissue variant. Color on the sleeve reads clean with no major sun fade on the red field, which is where these tend to show age first. Tape condition is not confirmed without a play-through, so treat the ribbon as unverified until you get it on a working deck. Check the spine along the top edge of the cassette housing where the label meets the shell seam.

Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
