As Ace Ventura, the eccentric pet detective hired to find the Miami Dolphins' kidnapped mascot Snowflake, Carrey unleashed a performance so manic, so committed, and so quotable that it redefined what a comedy lead could be. "Alrighty then" entered the English language permanently. The film grossed $107 million and launched Carrey into a run, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and the sequel, that made 1994-1995 the Year of Carrey.
