Home Alone 2: Lost in New York VHS — the 1992 sequel. Blue VHS sleeve with Macaulay Culkin centered, reading a newspaper with the headline "Wet Bandits Escape!" — eyes wide, classic Kevin McCallister reaction. Joe Pesci as Harry and Daniel Stern as Marv lurking behind him, looking scheming. The Empire State Building and New York City skyline silhouetted at the top. "FROM JOHN HUGHES A CHRIS COLUMBUS FILM" credit. "HOME ALONE 2 Lost In New York" in white and red lettering. 20th Century Fox.
Home Alone 2 takes everything that worked in the original and moves it to New York City — Kevin accidentally boards a plane to NYC instead of Florida, checks into the Plaza Hotel with his dad's credit card, and runs into the Wet Bandits (now the Sticky Bandits) all over again. The booby traps are bigger, the slapstick is more extreme, and Tim Curry as the suspicious hotel concierge is a perfect addition. The VHS with Kevin reading about the bandits' escape while they lurk behind him sets up the entire movie in one image. A holiday sequel that became a holiday tradition.
