Super Famicom — Hiouden: Mamono-tachi to no Chikai (1993) — CIB — the Super Famicom release of the Wolf Team strategy RPG. Original Japanese box with dramatic dark fantasy artwork. A throne room bathed in deep red and orange tones — a figure seated on a throne at the center flanked by a standing warrior. Massive skeletal figures line both sides of the hall, looming over the scene. A dragon's shadow cast on the wall above. Japanese kanji title "緋王伝" in red text at the top with subtitle "魔物達との誓い" (Oath with the Demons). "WOLFTEAM" publisher logo at the upper left. Super Famicom Licensed by Nintendo badge. Super Famicom Mouse compatible badge at the bottom. Dark, atmospheric, foreboding design.
Hiouden: Mamono-tachi to no Chikai (1993) was a strategy RPG developed by Wolf Team — the studio that would later become the Tales Studio responsible for the Tales of series (Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, and beyond). Wolf Team was known for ambitious, atmospheric games on Japanese platforms, and Hiouden's dark fantasy setting with demon pacts and political intrigue was a showcase for their storytelling ambitions. The game's Super Famicom Mouse compatibility added an unusual control option for the era. Japan-exclusive strategy RPGs on the Super Famicom represent some of the deepest cuts in the 16-bit RPG library — games that most Western players never experienced. An oath sealed in darkness.
