Vintage Thane Knitted Sweater Size Large
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Thane is not a household name in vintage knitwear, which is exactly why this piece is interesting. The label turns up in department-store-era American sweaters from the late 1970s through the late 1980s, positioned in the mid-market range alongside Sears Roebuck house labels and regional mill labels that never chased logo status. What you have here is a crewneck pullover in a size Large, navy body, with repeating horizontal stripe bands in teal and red. Tan runs through the chest, torso, and sleeves in a pattern that reads early 1980s without trying to.
The band-stripe crewneck format was the dominant casual knitwear grammar from roughly 1978 through 1986. The color combination on this piece is worth noting: navy paired with teal and tan is a palette that showed up heavily in the 1980 through 1984 retail period, before neon and contrast brights started pulling menswear away from earth-adjacent tones. Thane ran production through domestic mills for much of its catalog run, which means construction quality on surviving pieces tends to hold up. Seams finish cleanly and the knit structure maintains its tension where cheaper import stock from the same period started to pill and degrade. The mid-market positioning meant Thane competed on durability and clean design rather than branding, so the label sits quietly inside the collar and lets the knit do the talking.
Nautical stripe precision from the era when sportswear labels still cared about construction.
This copy is in solid vintage shape. The navy body is even and consistent, no significant fading at the cuffs or collar, the ribbed mock-neck retaining its structure rather than rolling or collapsing. The cotton-blend mix gives it a medium weight that reads as fall or mild winter layering, not a thermal. No visible pilling along the forearms, which is typically the first place band-stripe knits show wear. Pull the cuff back and check the seam at the inside wrist. That junction point between the ribbed cuff and the main sleeve body is where stress accumulates first on pieces this age, and on this copy it should tell you whether the construction is original and intact.

The Apparel Rack
The 90s rack is where most of the shop's apparel lives. Team tees, tour shirts, promotional jackets, wrestling pullovers, movie tie-in prints that nobody saved on purpose. vintage production runs were large and the survivors are the ones that dodged the rag bin. Each garment is measured flat, photographed on a neutral ground, and listed against the tag size.
