The piece

Artisan Entertainment's VHS release of "Felicia's Journey" is a 1999 psychological thriller directed by Atom Egoyan, based on the William Trevor novel of the same name. Bob Hoskins plays Hilditch, a seemingly gentle, soft-spoken catering manager who takes an unsettling interest in a young Irish woman searching for her boyfriend in England. The tape is still sealed in original shrink wrap, with a pre-viewed sticker intact on the case.

By 1999, Atom Egoyan was coming off "The Sweet Hereafter" (1997), which had earned him back-to-back Oscar nominations and cemented his reputation as one of the most precise psychological filmmakers working in English-language cinema. "Felicia's Journey" is quieter than "The Sweet Hereafter" in its horror, relying on Hoskins's domesticity as the mechanism of dread rather than any conventional thriller apparatus. Artisan Entertainment was deep into its run as one of the key independent distributors of the late 1990s, handling titles that the major studios passed on, a catalog that would eventually include "The Blair Witch Project" the same year. Hoskins as Hilditch is one of the more underrated lead performances of that decade, genuinely unsettling precisely because nothing about the performance announces itself as sinister.

Hoskins plays against type and the performance works cold, quiet, methodical, locked tight.

Condition here is the real news. Sealed VHS tapes from this 1999 release are uncommon enough, but a sealed copy with the pre-viewed sticker still attached means this went through a rental or retail pipeline and came out the other side without being opened. The shrink wrap appears intact from the outside. "Felicia's Journey" never had the cult surface area of Artisan's horror titles, so demand stayed modest, meaning fewer copies survived with seals unbroken. Color on the case looks accurate to late-1990s Artisan packaging, no obvious sun fade on the spine. Check the shrink wrap seam at the top edge of the case before anything else, and confirm the seal is continuous with no separation along that edge.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the shrink wrap seal is fully intact with no breaks or re-sealing along the top and side seams of the case.

Hoskins plays against type and the performance works cold, quiet, methodical, locked tight.

The Rental Counter

Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
