The Fan VHS
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
"The Fan" on VHS, TriStar, 1996. Sealed. This is Tony Scott's rain-soaked baseball thriller with Robert De Niro as Gil Renard, an obsessive knife salesman who latches onto San Francisco Giants centerfielder Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) with the kind of fixation that only Scott could make feel genuinely suffocating across two hours of stadium crowds and coastal fog.
Scott and De Niro had already run together on "The Last Boy Scout" and "Cape Fear" by the time this one arrived, so the collaboration carried real weight in 1996. De Niro was deep into his character-study decade: "Heat" came out the year before, "Casino" the year before that. Snipes was coming off "Waiting to Exhale" and "Jungle Fever," and his Rayburn has the body language of an athlete who knows everyone wants something from him. The supporting cast includes John Leguizamo and Ellen Barkin, and Hans Zimmer's score leans hard into the dread rather than the sport. Mandalay Entertainment produced it, TriStar distributed it, and the film arrived the same summer the Giants were still playing at Candlestick. Scott shot real ballpark footage in there, which gives the stalking sequences a texture that a soundstage couldn't replicate.
Scott wanted tension and he got it, even if audiences were not sure what to do with it.
This copy is still sealed in the original shrink wrap with the Pre-Viewed sticker intact on the case. Pre-Viewed stickers are a rental-market tell: the tape spent time in a Blockbuster or independent video store rotation before this wrapper went on, which means the seal you're looking at is the home-release seal, not a factory seal from the pressing run. For display, that distinction matters more than it does for play. The case graphics are the De Niro close-up art, not a variant or reissue cover. Check the shrink seam along the spine edge before anything else, flat and unbroken is the condition bar here.
OWNER VERIFY: Sealed-shrink status and Pre-Viewed sticker intact as described, confirmed against physical inspection.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
