Sega Master System California Games in Box
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
California Games on Sega Master System, complete in box. This is the Epyx title that Sega brought to their Western console in the late 1980s, and the Master System version is the one the platform's collectors track down hardest. Six events: surfing, footbag, skating, BMX, flying disc, and roller skating. All of them rendered in that particular shade of coastal California optimism that the mid-to-late 1980s had a monopoly on. The clamshell is present and the cartridge is seated inside.
Epyx was already well-established by the time California Games released in 1987 on home computers, having built their reputation on the Summer Games and Winter Games franchises earlier in the decade. The Master System port came in 1988. Sega's console was the underdog in North America against the NES, but it held stronger ground in Europe and Brazil, which means Master System CIB copies of any title carry a different survival story than their NES equivalents. Cartridges got separated from boxes fast in North American households. Finding the box intact thirty-plus years later is the accomplishment. The cover art on this version is the teal-and-grid design with the palm tree silhouette, which is the image most people carry around in their heads when they think about what 1988 looked and felt like before everything got complicated.
Six events that had zero connection to Olympic ceremony and everything to do with Venice Beach.
This copy comes in its original clamshell case. Condition on Master System clamshells varies considerably. The plastic is prone to yellowing on the spine edge and corner stress-fractures from repeated opening, so walk the seam line with your thumb before you commit. If the cartridge label is present and the cart seats without resistance, you are in good shape. The cover insert should show the event lineup on the back panel. Check the hinge spine for hairline cracking. That is the first place these cases give up on you.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the cartridge is the Sega Master System version (not a Master System II variant) and that the box insert is the original North American or PAL print matching the cart region.

The Sega Era
Sega's 80s catalogue moved fast and took risks. Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, the arcades that fed them, the merchandise that trailed each launch. The blue-ribbon years produced cartridges, plush, promotional cards, and magazine inserts that rarely made it past the living room floor. What landed here was stored carefully enough to survive two console generations.
