ESWAT: City Under Siege (1990) was Sega's answer to the cyberpunk action genre — a side-scrolling shooter where a police officer earns a suit of powered armor and becomes a one-man army against crime and terrorism. The game was a Genesis-exclusive reimagining of the 1989 arcade game, with expanded levels and gameplay. The cover art with the half-human, half-robot face is one of the most striking images on the Genesis — it captures the man-meets-machine aesthetic that defined cyberpunk fiction in the late '80s and early '90s. Early Genesis titles from 1990 are collected as first-generation games from the 16-bit era. Suit up and serve.
