Sega Genesis Barbie Video Game
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Barbie: Super Model on Sega Genesis is a 1993 Hi Tech Expressions release, one of the few Barbie-branded console titles that made it to cartridge in the 16-bit generation. The black cart with the hot pink label is immediately recognizable on a shelf of standard gray Genesis plastic. One copy is here at Keep It Classic, Container Park, Fremont Street.
Hi Tech Expressions had the Barbie license through the early 1990s and pushed Mattel's brand onto nearly every platform with a power button. The NES version came first, then Game Boy, then this Genesis build. The gameplay has Barbie moving through runway sequences and modeling poses, which was a deliberately soft entry point at a time when Genesis was still known primarily as the Sonic machine and the home of sports titles and beat-em-ups. 1993 was also the year the ESMA rating fight was heating up in Congress, which makes this cart an interesting historical counterpoint: while Mortal Kombat's blood-code controversy was driving the whole industry toward a ratings board, Hi Tech was releasing pink-label titles aimed at a demographic the Genesis marketing machine had largely ignored. That contrast is part of what makes this cart worth holding. Mattel and Hi Tech parted ways not long after, and this run of Genesis Barbie titles stayed short.
The moment fashion IP collided with cartridge logic and someone decided a runway game could work.
The cartridge is the black Genesis shell, not a third-party gray or color variant. The hot pink label is the identifying visual: bold Barbie logo, model graphic, Hi Tech Expressions branding in the lower corner. Condition on the label is worth checking at pickup since pink labels from this period show scuffs and edge peel more visibly than the standard gray carts in the Genesis library. No manual is noted with this listing. Works on all North American Sega Genesis hardware. Check the label edge at the upper left corner where the cart meets the ridge of the shell. That is the first place this label shows wear, and a clean edge there is your condition indicator.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the Hi Tech Expressions label is intact and the cart boots cleanly on Genesis hardware.

The Sega Era
Sega's 90s catalogue moved fast and took risks. Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, the arcades that fed them, the merchandise that trailed each launch. The blue-ribbon years produced cartridges, plush, promotional cards, and magazine inserts that rarely made it past the living room floor. What landed here was stored carefully enough to survive two console generations.
