The piece

Cruis'n World for Nintendo 64 is a Midway arcade racer ported to home console, released in 1998, and it is the second entry in the Cruis'n series after the 1996 Cruis'n USA port arrived on N64 a year earlier. This is the cartridge-only copy, standard gray shell, the kind that was sitting in every big-box rental rack before Blockbuster started putting stickers over the labels.

By 1998, the N64 was running its midcycle stride alongside GoldenEye (1997), Star Fox 64 (1997), and Mario Kart 64 (1996), which meant every publisher on the platform was competing against Nintendo's own output for shelf space. Midway had already proven the arcade-to-N64 pipeline with Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996) and Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey (1996), so Cruis'n World arrived with some institutional credibility behind it. The game added tracks set across Egypt, Germany, France, Hawaii, and Australia, expanding the original's American highway premise into a globe-spanning race loop. It was never the critical darling of the catalog, but it was consistently present: the kind of cart a rental store kept stocked on a Friday night because it loaded fast and two players could argue about it without needing a manual.

The arcade conversion that prioritized spectacle over simulation, built for bursts with friends over grinding lap times alone.

This copy shows the wear of actual play history. The label reads cleanly with no major tears or bubbling, which matters more than it sounds on a cart that's been in and out of consoles for nearly three decades. The gray shell has the scuffs you expect from a cartridge that lived without a case, nothing structural. No box, no manual. Plug it into your N64 and it should boot to the Midway title screen without a cleaning kit, though a quick pin wipe never hurts on a cart this age. Run your thumb across the top edge of the cartridge label, where peel usually starts, and check that it lays flat to the shell before you take it home.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the 1998 North American release version via the cartridge label text and NUS board markings on the back of the shell.

NINTENDO ARCHIVE

The Nintendo Archive

This is part of Nintendo's 90s run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.

Cruis'n World (1998), Midway's N64 sequel to Cruis'n USA, this time taking the coin-op racing formula across international locations: Egypt, France, Hawaii, and beyond. Standard gray cartridge, label intact with the globe-trotting artwork and bold 3D "WORLD" lettering. Cartridge only, pre-owned. The Cruis'n series owned '90s arcades, and the N64 port still holds up as a solid pick-up-and-play multiplayer racer. See photos for condition.
