The piece

Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf is a 1990 Konami release for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a golf simulation cartridge built around the actual layout and design data of courses tied to Nicklaus' most celebrated wins in major championship play. The grey cart carries a photo of Nicklaus mid-swing on the label, gold-text branding, and Konami's production mark on the back. Cart only, no box, no manual.

By 1990, NES golf had already been shaped by Nintendo's own "Golf" (1984) and HAL Laboratory's "Hole In One Golf," but Nicklaus' name on the cart meant something more ambitious: hole design pulled from Augusta National, Pebble Beach, and St. Andrews, the courses where Nicklaus built his six Masters, three U.S. Opens, and three British Open titles across his major championship run from 1962 through 1986. Konami had already earned its reputation on NES through "Contra," "Castlevania," and "Track & Field II," so when they put their name on a licensed sports simulation in this period, the build quality was not an afterthought. The control input for club selection, wind reading, and power-gauge timing was closer to actual course management than the one-button arcade style most golf titles defaulted to. This one belongs to a category of licensed games that tried to do something real with the hardware, and the Konami pedigree behind it shows in the depth of the sim.

Eighteen major championship holes rendered in fifty-two colors and a three-click swing meter.

This copy is cart only, which is the standard survival condition for NES golf titles from this run. The cartridge shell shows honest play wear, the kind that comes from being pulled out of a living room entertainment center repeatedly through the 1990s rather than sitting in a closet. The label is intact, which is not always the case with this title. Plug it into a cleaned 72-pin connector before you judge the read. Check the label edge at the top of the cart. Any peeling there will tell you how this copy was stored.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the Konami production year stamped on the cartridge back matches the 1990 release date.
