Mattel WWE Retro Zeus Figure
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Mattel's WWE Retro line brought Zeus back into plastic in the mid-2010s, packaging him in that light blue retro border with the classic WWF block logo, a deliberate nod to the original LJN rubber figures from the late 1980s. The figure itself depicts Zeus shirtless in black pants with silver wrist cuffs, his signature move listed on the card as the Zeus Zlam. One-of-one condition on the card art. This is a deep-cut pull even by wrestling toy standards.
Zeus, born Tiny Lister in the character, arrived in WWF in 1989 as the villain opposite Hulk Hogan during the "No Holds Barred" theatrical push. The film hit theaters in June 1989, and WWF leaned the angle all the way into SummerSlam 1989 at the Meadowlands, where Zeus teamed with Randy Savage against Hogan and Brutus Beefcake. The post-SummerSlam rematch ran through the 1989 Survivor Series and culminated at a December No Holds Barred pay-per-view event of the same name, also in 1989. Zeus never held gold, never competed in a world title program outside the Hogan feud, and disappeared from WWF by early 1990. That compressed run is exactly why the character stayed rare in vintage LJN production and why Mattel returning to him decades later for the Retro line registered as a genuine surprise to the collector community. The Retro line launched around 2016 and mined exactly this shelf of characters: over-the-top personalities from the Hogan era who never got proper plastic treatment the first time.
Zeus didn't need to wrestle well, just look like he could break you in half.
This copy appears to be on the original Retro card, intact, no card-back bubbling visible from the front. The light blue border is consistent across the Retro line's first production run. The Zeus Zlam credit on the blister is a small detail the Mattel team got right. It matches the original character's in-kayfabe move set rather than anything from Lister's later career. Sealed copies of Retro line figures have appreciated as the line has gone out of general retail rotation. Display it facing forward so the card art reads clearly, and check the blister seam at the bottom edge of the card for any separation before you commit.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm this is a sealed, first-run Mattel WWE Retro card (not a reissue or loose repack) by checking the copyright date printed on the card back.

Wrestling merch from the 80s lived on the bodies of kids who watched pay-per-views on grainy basement TVs. WWE shipped shirts, belts, programs, and figures aimed at the same audience every week. The pieces that survived through tag-team eras and company rebrands get inspected in Las Vegas and listed one at a time.
