Mattel WWE Cowboy Bob Orton Action Figure
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Mattel's WWE Retro line brought back the legends who built the business, and Cowboy Bob Orton is exactly the kind of pick that separates a real collector from someone who just grabbed whoever was on the peg. This is the Retro series figure, carded, depicting "Ace" in his signature green trunks and black cowboy hat, with the Cowboy Clothesline called out as his finishing move on the card art. Pre-owned condition, original packaging.
Bob Orton Jr. spent the better part of the 1980s as one of Roddy Piper's closest allies, a heel worker whose cast-wrapped arm became one of the longest-running gags and most recognizable props in WWF history. The cast appeared at WrestleMania I in 1985, kept going through 1986, and became the kind of recurring bit that defined how the territory era's best characters translated to national television. Orton was a second-generation guy, son of Bob Orton Sr., and the lineage mattered in a time when kayfabe still held and bloodlines gave a character immediate credibility in the locker room. When Mattel launched the Retro line, the whole pitch was figures built on a 1980s aesthetic with articulation held back deliberately to echo the Hasbro WWF line from 1990 to 1994. Cowboy Bob was exactly the right kind of deep-cut inclusion. He's not Hogan, not Savage. He's the card that tells you who actually built the show.
The cast stayed on for years because it worked as a weapon the crowd could see coming.
This copy is in pre-owned condition, carded and on its original backing. The bubble is intact; inspect the seam where the blister meets the card for any peel or lift before you commit. The card itself features the Retro line's period-appropriate graphic treatment. Figure paint, particularly on the hat and boot detail, holds up on these Retro releases better than you'd expect given their price tier, but check the hat brim under light for any rubbing or chips before the piece goes into a display.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm this is the Mattel WWE Retro series release and not the standard Mattel Basic or Elite line, as the Retro packaging is visually distinct and the figure articulation will differ.
The cast stayed on for years because it worked as a weapon the crowd could see coming.
