The series translates roughly as "Master Fisherman" and occupies a small, strange, genuinely beloved corner of the SFC library where the genre is not action, not platforming, not combat. It is fishing. Patient, seasonal, river-by-river fishing with RPG structure underneath.

The early-to-mid 1990s Super Famicom catalog in Japan carried a range of games that never crossed the Pacific, and the Kawa no Nushi Tsuri series is one of the cleaner examples of that gap. Pack-In-Video originally developed the series before Nintendo picked up publishing duties, and the games found an audience among Japanese players who wanted something slower than the dominant action titles.
