The piece

Homerun Nighter is a 1988 Data East baseball title for the Nintendo Famicom, and this copy is complete in box with the original Japanese packaging intact. Data East put out the Famicom version under their own label, and the box art delivers exactly what you want from a late-80s Japanese sports game: a batter in a red uniform at the plate, catcher in blue gear crouched behind him, cartoon rendering, clean lines. CIB Famicom games at this condition level are not easy to find outside Japan, and this one made the trip.

1988 on the Famicom was a loaded year. Capcom had just dropped "Mega Man 2." Konami was deep into the "Castlevania" and "Contra" run. Data East was carving out its own space with sports and arcade conversions, and Homerun Nighter arrived in that catalog as a straightforward, playable baseball sim aimed at the Japanese domestic market. The title never received a North American NES release under that name, which puts it firmly in the import-only category for Western collectors. Regional carts like this one represent the part of the Famicom library that most American players never encountered at retail, and that gap is exactly why the collector floor on Japanese CIB titles has stayed strong. The cartridge hardware itself is a 60-pin Famicom format, incompatible with a standard North American NES without a pin adapter or a region-unlocked system.

Data East gave the batter a grin wider than his stance, frozen mid-contact, ball screaming fence-ward.

This copy is complete in box, which means box, cartridge, and presumably the original manual are present. Verify the manual is in the box before the CIB claim is confirmed, because loose carts do sometimes get reboxed. The box shows the expected wear for a 38-year-old Japanese retail package: check the corners and the spine edge for creasing or separation. The cartridge shell itself should be clean with no cracking at the label seam. Run your thumb along the cartridge edge connector pins before you plug this into anything.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm CIB status includes original manual and that no components are reproduction or reboxed replacements.

Data East gave the batter a grin wider than his stance, frozen mid-contact, ball screaming fence-ward.

The Nintendo Archive

This is part of Nintendo's 80s run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.
