Eddie VHS Tape
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
"Eddie" on VHS, the 1996 NBA comedy from Hollywood Pictures, starring Whoopi Goldberg as a die-hard New York Knicks superfan who coaches the team through sheer force of personality. The sleeve is white, Goldberg front and center in a power suit holding a basketball, with the Knicks branding running across the cover in full mid-90s NBA style. Factory-pressed home video release from the year the film hit theaters.
The mid-90s was the peak period for NBA crossover entertainment. The league was riding the Jordan era hard, marketers were throwing money at anything with a basketball in frame, and Hollywood responded with a run of court-adjacent comedies aimed at the post-Bulls dynasty casual fan. "Eddie" came out the same year as Space Jam, two completely different tonal swings at basketball as spectacle, and both hit store shelves in the same holiday cycle. The Knicks were a legitimate playoff team through this stretch, Riley had just left for Miami the year prior, and the Garden faithful were a nationally recognized personality type. Casting Goldberg as that archetype was a real read on the fanbase, not just a gimmick. The film pulled Frank Langella, Dennis Farina, and actual NBA players for cameos, which was the playbook of the moment. Real locker room access, real uniforms, real arena footage. Hollywood was leaning into league cooperation in a way that feels different from the current era of fully sanctioned productions.
Whoopi coaches the Knicks, the NBA cooperates, and nineties optimism lands on tape.
This copy has the white sleeve with no major creasing visible on the face. The VHS format here is the standard clamshell-adjacent cardboard sleeve housing, common for mid-90s Hollywood Pictures releases. Check the tape window on the cassette itself once you pull it from the sleeve. The ribbon should sit flat and show no slack or bunching. If the ribbon looks taut and even, the tape has been stored correctly and should play clean on any functioning VCR.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
