The film came out in February 1989, directed by Stephen Herek and written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, a legitimate cult comedy that got its flowers quickly. Nelson Entertainment handled the home video distribution in the U.S. before the catalog moved labels through the 1990s. Orion Pictures had the theatrical run, but Nelson controlled the early VHS retail. The tape belongs to a lineage that stretches through Blockbuster shelves, mom-and-pop video stores, and the years of marquee cardboard box art designed to stand spine-out in a rental rack.
