Ariel The Little Mermain GameGear
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
"Ariel: The Little Mermaid" for the Sega Game Gear is a licensed Disney platformer from 1992, built by Sega of America to move units alongside the franchise's massive wave of secondary products following the 1989 film. The Game Gear was Sega's answer to the original Game Boy, a full-color handheld at a time when Nintendo's hardware was still running in four shades of pea-soup green. That hardware difference mattered for a title like this, where the underwater color palette, Ariel's red hair, and the deep indigo backgrounds were half the sell.
By 1992, "The Little Mermaid" had already spent two years as one of Disney's highest-grossing animated releases and the property was everywhere: VHS, bedsheets, Halloween costumes, and now cartridges. The Game Gear's library leaned hard into licensed titles because that's what parents reaching for a handheld in a Toys R Us or a Kay-Bee were willing to buy for kids who already had a favorite character. Sega knew their demographic. The game is a side-scroller, Ariel swimming through enemies and obstacles across levels that pull directly from the film's visual grammar. Ursula looms. King Triton appears. The color reproduction on Game Gear hardware made this one of the better-looking licensed platformers of its generation on a handheld screen.
Six AAs for three hours, but the color screen made every coral reef worth it.
This copy is cartridge only. No clamshell, no manual, no hang-tab insert. The cartridge itself features the full illustrated label: Ariel centered, Triton at lower left with his trident visible, and Ursula overhead against a deep purple ocean backdrop. The label edges and corner tabs are what to check on a 30-plus-year-old Game Gear cart. Peel, lift, or bubbling at the corners tells you how this one was stored. Pre-owned condition means inserted and played, so check the connector pins on the bottom edge before you drop this into a Game Gear slot.
OWNER VERIFY: confirm the 1992 production year against the cartridge label or PCB stamp.

The Sega Era
Sega's 90s catalogue moved fast and took risks. Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, the arcades that fed them, the merchandise that trailed each launch. The blue-ribbon years produced cartridges, plush, promotional cards, and magazine inserts that rarely made it past the living room floor. What landed here was stored carefully enough to survive two console generations.
