Salem Sportswear made the shirts that college football programs actually wore to the celebration. This one is a black XXL from 1993-94, marking Nebraska's back-to-back national championships under Tom Osborne. Salem held the NCAA licensed apparel slot during that run, which means this is not a knockoff or a later reprint. It came out of the same distribution channel that put shirts in the hands of students, boosters, and fans in Lincoln the week the Huskers finished the job twice over.
The 1994 and 1995 national titles, both claimed by Osborne and the Cornhuskers, were not flukes. Nebraska won the 1994 championship over Miami in the Orange Bowl on January 1, 1995, then turned around and ran the table again through the 1995 season, finishing with a demolition of Florida in the Fiesta Bowl on January 2, 1996. That two-year run is considered one of the most dominant stretches in modern college football history, built on the option, the Unity Council, and a roster loaded with NFL talent. Tommie Frazier quarterbacked the second of those titles. Lawrence Phillips, Ahman Green, Grant Wistrom. Tom Osborne retired after the 1997 season with three national titles in four years. The Salem shirts from that period were printed fast and distributed fast, before the commemorative apparel market got crowded. Black body, red Huskers script, two oversized gold championship rings stamped with the red N. That graphic layout reads immediately on the floor.
Two gold rings blown up to poster scale, no minimalist restraint, no apology required.
This copy is an XXL, which runs generously by mid-1990s standards. Salem Sportswear shirts from this period are known for a heavier cotton body than the fashion-fit blanks that replaced them later in the decade, so the actual chest and shoulder measurement is worth a close look before assuming modern fit. The print is the thing to inspect up close. The gold ring graphic on a Salem shirt from this period should show solid ink coverage without cracking at the edges. Check the cuff hem stitching on both sleeves. Salem double-stitched their licensed tees in this run, and if that stitch is clean, you are looking at a shirt that has been handled carefully across thirty-plus years.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm both championship years (1993-94 season cycle) against the label print or neck tag text, as some Salem shirts from this run specify the bowl games and some do not.
The 90s Rack
The 90s rack is where most of the shop's apparel lives. Team tees, tour shirts, promotional jackets, wrestling pullovers, movie tie-in prints that nobody saved on purpose. 90s production runs were large and the survivors are the ones that dodged the rag bin. Each garment is measured flat, photographed on a neutral ground, and listed against the tag size.
