The piece

WWF Coliseum Video's "Hulkamania 4" VHS is a home-release tape from the Hulkamania peak years, almost certainly produced in the 1988–1990 window when Coliseum Video was WWF's primary home-video arm and Hogan was the undisputed center of the entire promotion. Without the photo in front of us, the exact release year is provisional, so the sticker date and spine text will settle this before any era claim sticks. These tapes were direct-to-rental or direct-to-retail releases, not broadcast recordings, meaning the content was assembled specifically for the home-video market at a time when that format was a genuine revenue engine for the Federation.

The Hulkamania series was Coliseum Video's marquee franchise through the mid-to-late 1980s, and volumes three and four arrived as Hogan's in-ring presence was being calibrated around bigger and bigger pay-per-view moments. WrestleMania IV was April 1988 at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. WrestleMania V followed in April 1989, also Trump Plaza, with the Hogan-Savage "Mega Powers Explode" main event drawing one of the era's loudest arenas. Summer Slam 1988 at Madison Square Garden and Survivor Series 1988 and 1989 all fed the content pipeline these Coliseum releases drew from. The tapes in this series typically ran 90 to 120 minutes and mixed title matches, promos, and backstage or interview segments built around Hogan's character. Coliseum Video at this point was moving millions of units through video rental chains like Blockbuster and mom-and-pop shops before home-video purchasing became the dominant model.

The clamshell case alone is a design object worth holding.

This copy needs a hands-on once-over given we have not pulled stills yet. Original Coliseum Video releases from this run came in a hard clamshell case with a front-panel photo of Hogan in red and yellow gear and a Coliseum Video logo block along the spine. The tape itself should carry an FBI anti-piracy header before the WWF intro card. Condition on these varies: look for case cracking at the hinge corners, label lift on the tape cartridge, and whether the clamshell closure snaps flush with no gap. Check the spine label, because fading or print shift there is your fastest read on storage history.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the production year from the spine or cassette label, as the exact volume in the Hulkamania series and its release date (likely 1988, 1989, or 1990) needs label confirmation.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the Coliseum Video label and FBI warning header on the tape itself to establish this as an original pressing rather than a dub or third-party reissue.
OWNER VERIFY: Note condition of the clamshell hinge corners and whether the spine label shows fading or print lift, as these are the primary condition markers on this release.

The clamshell case alone is a design object worth holding.
WWF ATTITUDE ERA

Attitude Era Archive

WWF's 80s stretch ran hot and strange. Shirts, magazines, and figures came out of a locker-room-to-retail pipeline with zero prestige intent. The ones that made it through are creased, foxed, sun-hit, and still loud. Keeping them intact is the job. We document what survived and photograph it in the condition it arrived in.
