WWE The Dusty Rhodes Story DVD
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
WWE's career documentary on Dusty Rhodes, "The Dusty Rhodes Story," came out in the mid-2000s during the company's aggressive DVD biography push. The release follows the standard WWE Home Video book-case format: brown and gold antiqued framing on the cover, ornate gold border work, and Western-style block lettering announcing The American Dream. This is a one-of-one copy, not a reprint, not a reissue. What you are holding is a physical record of how WWE chose to canonize one of professional wrestling's most complete careers at the moment it chose to do it.
Dusty Rhodes earned his name in the NWA territory wars of the 1970s and 1980s, working the Florida circuit out of Championship Wrestling from Florida before becoming the centerpiece of the JCP/NWA national product. The 1985 "Hard Times" promo, delivered in response to Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen, is widely regarded as one of the ten best microphone moments in the history of the business. Rhodes held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship three times. He booked the first Starrcade in 1983. He survived the polka-dot WWF repackage under Vince McMahon in 1989 and 1990, which this documentary does not sidestep. By the time WWE produced this release, Rhodes had already been inducted into the company's Hall of Fame in 2007, making this disc part of the post-induction canonization wave. The American Dream chapter of WWE's biography catalog belongs alongside productions on Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Mick Foley from the same production run, all shot in the same long-form talking-head format.
The closest thing WWE ever produced to a thesis on the American Dream.
This copy presents in clean condition. The book-case hinge and the interior disc tray are the two failure points on WWE book-format releases, so press both before you commit. The disc itself should seat without play, and the case should close flush with no stress crack along the spine hinge. Gold border printing on the cover can ghost or peel if the case saw heat storage, so run a thumb across the front panel.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the exact release year (2006 or 2007) against the copyright date printed on the disc face or inside rear cover.
