The piece

Kind Hearts and Coronets arrived on VHS via The British Sterling Collection, preserving the 1949 Ealing Studios film where Alec Guinness played eight members of a noble family hunted by a distant relative bent on inheritance. Guinness's virtuoso performance across multiple roles remains one of cinema's greatest acting feats. Blue clamshell case with Leonard Maltin four-star review and black-and-white still of Guinness in naval captain dress.

Ealing's coldest comedy, Maltin's four stars, the clamshell that taught American renters what taste looked like.

The Rental Counter

Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
