The Rental Counter

Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.

I Married an Angel (1942) was the final film pairing of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. The most famous singing duo in Hollywood musical history. Based on the Rodgers and Hart Broadway musical, the film tells the story of a playboy banker who vows to marry only an angel, and then one actually appears. While not the strongest entry in the MacDonald-Eddy filmography, it holds special significance as the last of their eight films together. The end of a partnership that defined MGM's golden age of musicals. VHS tapes of MacDonald-Eddy films are collected by fans of classic Hollywood romance and musical cinema. An angelic farewell.
