Robin Williams earned a Golden Globe and his second Academy Award nomination for Best Actor on this one, playing Adrian Cronauer, the Armed Forces Radio DJ whose broadcasts in 1965 Saigon were the loudest thing on the airwaves. Touchstone released the film in December 1987, directed by Barry Levinson. It arrived in a stretch when Williams was pivoting from television stardom into a run of dramatic-comedy work that would define the back half of his film career.
