The piece

Francis Goes to West Point arrived in 1952 as the third film in Universal's talking-mule comedy series, pairing Donald O'Connor's rubber-faced physical comedy with an absurd military academy premise. The VHS release preserves the original artwork: Francis mid-laugh in a decorated bridle, O'Connor in cadet dress, West Point cadets in formation behind. MCA Universal Home Video pressing, closed-captioned, pre-owned condition.

A talking mule out-thinks the brass, packaged in the clamshell era Universal knew how to stack.
VHS / RENTAL COUNTER

The Rental Counter

Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 90s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.

Francis Goes to West Point (1952) was the third film in Universal's Francis the Talking Mule series. This time sending Francis and Peter Stirling (Donald O'Connor) to the United States Military Academy. The Francis films were consistent box-office performers that audiences loved for their silly, good-natured humor. Donald O'Connor's rubber-faced physical comedy was perfectly matched with the absurd premise of a talking mule, and each installment found a new setting to create comic chaos.
