Sony PS2 Syphon Filter The Omega Strain CIB
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain is a PS2 action-espionage title developed by Sony Bend and published by Sony Computer Entertainment America in 2004. It is the fourth entry in the Syphon Filter series and the first console installment built around online cooperative play, supporting up to four players online through the PS2's broadband adapter at a time when networked PS2 gaming was still finding its footing.
2004 put the PS2 at peak saturation. The console had cleared 50 million units worldwide and was running on all cylinders as a platform, with Sony Bend operating out of Bend, Oregon as one of SCEA's internal first-party studios. The Syphon Filter franchise had launched in 1999 and built its audience across the PlayStation and PS2 generations on the reputation of its controls and its globe-hopping operative storyline centered on Gabe Logan. The Omega Strain took a structural swing: instead of following Logan as a solo operative, it dropped the player into the role of a new Agency recruit and redesigned the campaign around team objectives. That cooperative architecture was the talking point at launch. The PS2 online ecosystem was thin compared to what Xbox Live had built by 2004 using Halo 2 and the mid-2004 system seller slate, but Sony Bend built the multiplayer component around the existing PS2 Network Adapter infrastructure and made it work. The game was not the commercial breakout the series needed, but it holds real documentation value as a title that pushed online co-op into a first-party PS2 franchise before the generation closed out.
The franchise's boldest swing, still holding a cult following two decades past launch.
This copy is complete in box. The standard black PS2 keepcase is here, the disc is present, and the manual should be confirmed inside. The cover art uses the neon-blue atmospheric treatment common to Omega Strain marketing materials. CIB condition on PS2 software from this period lives and dies on the disc surface and the manual spine. Pull the disc and check the data side for deep radial scratches near the hub ring, which is where PS2 optical reads tend to struggle on a worn copy. The manual spine crease and the tray card condition are the next things to check before pricing this one.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm disc, manual, and tray card are all present and disc surface is clean with no deep hub-ring scratches.

The PlayStation Index
Sony's polygon era rebuilt what a console could look like on a shelf. y2k PlayStation releases shipped with jewel cases, foldout manuals, demo discs, and promotional boxes that were treated as disposable at the time. The ones that held on, through moves and attic boxes and thrift bins, land at the shop with the printing still sharp. We list them with the marks honest.
