The piece

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a Nintendo-published side-scrolling platformer released November 15, 2009, on the Wii. It came in a red case, which Nintendo used to distinguish Wii titles from the standard white cases of the platform's first wave. The game is one of the rare big-N releases where the packaging itself is a period detail worth noting.

2009 was a specific moment in the Mario lineage. The franchise had spent much of the mid-2000s in 3D territory, with "Galaxy" on Wii arriving in 2007 to enormous critical reception. "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" was Nintendo's deliberate return to the side-scrolling format the series built its name on, the first time the classic left-to-right structure had appeared on a home console since "Super Mario World" on SNES in 1990. The headlining feature was simultaneous 4-player co-op, which had never been in a mainline home Mario title before. You could play as Mario, Luigi, and both Toads at once, chaos included. The game sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the ten best-selling Wii releases ever. At Container Park, this copy is coming off the shelf into a collector's hands, not a discount bin.

Red case Nintendo flagship, built for four-player couch chaos and cooperative betrayal.

This is a pre-owned single copy. The red case is the standard retail version, not a bundle variant or a Greatest Hits re-press. Condition on Wii disc cases varies significantly at this age: look at the case spine for hinge stress, check the disc tray insert for cracks along the locking tab, and run a finger across the disc surface for deep radial scratches versus the light swirl marks that clean up fine. The label side of the disc should carry no peeling around the center ring. Inspect the hinge seam on the inside spine before you close the case.

OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the disc is "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" (2009 release) and not an earlier "New Super Mario Bros." DS cartridge included with a Wii case.

NINTENDO ARCHIVE

The Nintendo Archive

This is part of Nintendo's y2k run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.
