Sega Genesis Super Battleship The Classic Naval Combat Game in Box
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Super Battleship for the Sega Genesis is a 1993 Mindscape release, complete in the original clamshell case, and it is one of the more interesting board-game-to-console conversions the 16-bit generation produced. This is not a straight port of the Milton Bradley grid game. Mindscape built two modes into the cartridge: the classic call-your-shot coordinate grid that everyone who touched the board game knows cold, and a separate real-time fleet combat mode with actual naval maneuvering. Both modes. One cart.
The early 1990s were the peak window for this kind of crossover, when publishers were actively proving that tabletop strategy could translate to a home console without losing the tension. Mindscape had a track record here. Their catalog in that period included licensed board game conversions and strategy titles across multiple platforms, and Super Battleship was built by Software Toolworks, a studio that knew how to get clean logic onto 16-bit hardware without the slowdown that killed other strategy releases. The Genesis version competes directly with the SNES release from the same period. The Genesis cart runs crisper on the real-time mode, no argument from us on that. The game never got a sequel on the platform, which makes this the only time the concept appeared in this form on the Genesis hardware. Thirty-three years later, it stays complete more often than you would expect, which is part of why this copy matters.
Turn-based naval warfare for the player who wanted tactics over twitch on a speed machine.
This copy is CIB, complete in box. The clamshell case is the standard Mindscape format for the period, same housing Mindscape used across their Genesis line. The cartridge, manual, and box are all present. Condition on the box and manual is what you will want to evaluate in person; clamshell Genesis boxes from this period can show corner wear and interior sleeve fade at varying levels. The cartridge label is the piece to look at first. Check the label edges for peeling or print lift, which is the most common wear point on Mindscape Genesis carts from this run.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm all three CIB components are present (cartridge, manual, clamshell box) and assess cartridge label condition before the listing ships.

The Sega Era
Sega's 90s catalogue moved fast and took risks. Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, the arcades that fed them, the merchandise that trailed each launch. The blue-ribbon years produced cartridges, plush, promotional cards, and magazine inserts that rarely made it past the living room floor. What landed here was stored carefully enough to survive two console generations.
