PS2 NHRA Drag Racing Countdown to the Championship in Box
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
THQ's NHRA Drag Racing: Countdown to the Championship arrived on PlayStation 2 in 2007, one of the only console titles to put a full NHRA license behind a quarter-mile racing game. Official sanctioning meant real funny cars, real top fuel dragsters, and real pro stock machines carrying the sponsor livery that makes drag racing look like a rolling billboard doing 330 miles per hour. Paddock-level accuracy on a home console was a thin market. This was the shelf pick.
By 2007 the PS2 was deep into its long tail. The PS3 had launched in late 2006, but the installed base on PS2 was still enormous, and THQ understood that a niche motorsport license played better to the audience already sitting on that hardware. NHRA itself was in a strong broadcast stretch on ESPN2, and Countdown to the Championship was the actual format the series used for its playoff structure, which the game adopted as its primary career hook. John Force's Castrol GTX funny car, Tony Schumacher's U.S. Army top fueler, the whole competitive roster from the mid-2000s circuit, all rendered with enough fidelity to satisfy fans who knew the difference between a Pro Stock and a Comp Eliminator. That kind of licensed authenticity was not cheap to produce, which is part of why dedicated NHRA console titles stayed rare before and after this release.

This copy is complete in box, which matters for a game that came with a manual thin enough to lose between couch cushions. The case and disc are present, and the box shows the dual-car cover art, a blue Dodge and a green Mustang staged at the line with sponsor graphics legible enough to read at arm's length. Condition on CIB PS2 titles from this period varies heavily depending on whether the previous owner used it as a coaster, so pull the disc and check the read surface under light before anything else. Check the disc hub ring where the center locks onto the spindle. Stress cracks there are the first thing that tells you how this copy was stored.
OWNER VERIFY: 2007 release year and THQ publisher credit against the disc label and case spine.

The PlayStation Index
Sony's polygon era rebuilt what a console could look like on a shelf. y2k PlayStation releases shipped with jewel cases, foldout manuals, demo discs, and promotional boxes that were treated as disposable at the time. The ones that held on, through moves and attic boxes and thrift bins, land at the shop with the printing still sharp. We list them with the marks honest.
