Nomads VHS Tape
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
"Nomads" on VHS from Atlantic Releasing Corporation is a supernatural thriller released in 1986, directed by John McTiernan in his first feature. Brosnan plays a French anthropologist who crosses paths with a pack of violent spirits haunting Los Angeles, and the premise sits somewhere between urban folklore and genuine dread. Atlantic Releasing moved a lot of mid-budget genre titles through the mid-80s independent distribution circuit, and this was one of their better acquisitions.
1986 was a sharp year for genre output on the independent side. The major studios were chasing blockbuster spectacle, which left the mid-budget horror and thriller lane wide open for labels like Atlantic Releasing, New World, and Vestron. McTiernan would go on to direct "Predator" in 1987 and "Die Hard" in 1988, which means this tape exists at a rare juncture: the only moment in his career when you could hold something with his name on it and not already know where it was going. Brosnan was pre-Bond, post-"Remington Steele," and this role showed him leaning into something more unsettling than his television reputation suggested. The film was shot on location in Los Angeles, and the production used the city itself as part of the atmosphere, working against the glamorized LA of mainstream 80s cinema.
Pre-Blockbuster ubiquity, when independent stores ordered based on distributor catalogs and a strong sleeve.
This copy is a pre-owned Atlantic Releasing clamshell. The tape format and label printing are consistent with mid-1980s Atlantic pressings. Cover art shows the blue spectral figure over the LA skyline that became the film's most recognizable image, and it holds up as a shelf piece on its own terms. Condition on these mid-80s independents varies more than the majors, so check the tape before you commit. Ribbon should sit flat with no slack, and the window itself should be clear of any warp along the seam edge.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the Atlantic Releasing Corporation copyright year on the tape label or clamshell back matches the 1986 release date before quoting it as a verified pressing year.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. 80s tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
