NES Scheherazade
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
"The Magic of Scheherazade" is a Culture Brain action-RPG released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, one of the few non-Western fantasy titles the system ever saw. Culture Brain was a mid-tier Famicom publisher that made its name on punchy, mechanically weird games, and Scheherazade was their most ambitious American release. Standard gray cartridge, NES-AS-USA board configuration, Made in Japan stamp on the label.
The NES library in 1989 was thick with European and American fantasy settings, so an Arabian Nights RPG with time-travel mechanics stood out immediately. Culture Brain threaded together real-time combat in the overworld with turn-based party battles in dungeon rooms, a hybrid system that was rare on the platform. Nintendo's own "Dragon Quest" influence was all over the JRPG side of the market, but Scheherazade moved sideways from that template entirely, pulling from One Thousand and One Nights for its world structure, its NPC cast, and its puzzle logic. The game was not a massive seller, which is exactly why complete-in-box copies and clean loose cartridges carry weight today. Culture Brain released a handful of NES titles stateside, including the "Flying Warriors" series, but Scheherazade remains the one collectors return to as the studio's peak American moment. It sold quietly in 1989 and has been climbing in collector demand every year since.
Fantasy Arabia on an 8-bit cart, no remaster, no emulation, just this.
This copy is loose cartridge. The label reads clean with no significant peeling at the corners, and the gray shell shows the kind of light contact wear consistent with a cartridge that was played, not stored. No marker, no label writing, no sticker residue visible. The 72-pin connector on the cartridge's edge is the first thing to check when it arrives in your hands. Look at those connector pins for corrosion or bent contacts, because that is the condition signal that separates a plug-and-play copy from one that needs a cleaning kit before your first run.

The Nintendo Archive
This is part of Nintendo's 80s run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.
