Enemy At The Gates Blockbuster Sleeve VHS
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Paramount's "Enemy at the Gates" on VHS, in a Blockbuster Pre-Viewed sleeve, is a 2001 wide-release war thriller following the Battle of Stalingrad through the eyes of a Soviet sniper and the German marksman sent to eliminate him. Jean-Jacques Annaud directed. Jude Law and Ed Harris lead the cast. This copy carries the Blockbuster Pre-Viewed label, the dark blue late-era sleeve design, and a $9.99 price sticker from the rental chain's final years of physical inventory dominance.
"Enemy at the Gates" hit theaters in March 2001 during a period when prestige war films were commanding real theatrical and home-video spend. Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks had reframed the genre with "Saving Private Ryan" in 1998 and "Band of Brothers" on HBO in 2001, and studios were greenlighting serious WWII productions with the confidence that audiences would follow. Annaud's film leaned into the cat-and-mouse psychological tension between Law's Vasily Zaitsev, a Urals shepherd turned Red Army sharpshooter, and Harris's Major König, a Wehrmacht sniper dispatched to neutralize him. Rachel Weisz and Bob Hoskins round out the principal cast. The Stalingrad setting, winter 1942 through early 1943, gave the production a scale that rewarded the VHS format's standard-definition limitations less than it did the theatrical screen, but the rental market was still the primary second-run release path for most major titles in 2001, and Blockbuster moved a significant volume of this title. The Pre-Viewed sticker confirms this copy did floor duty before it was sold out of the chain.
Pre-Viewed stock from Blockbuster's final decade, when buying the tape still made sense.
The sleeve is the dark-background Blockbuster Pre-Viewed design associated with the early-to-mid 2000s retail phase, not the earlier blue-and-gold full-box format. The $9.99 sticker is intact. Tape condition and picture quality are the variables on any Pre-Viewed copy that went through a busy store's circulation, so inspect the tape housing for wear and check the leader at the tape window before you commit.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm the Blockbuster Pre-Viewed sticker date or batch code on the sleeve for the precise sell-through period.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. y2k tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
