Cedric the Entertainer VHS
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Platinum Comedy Series, early 2000s, sealed. This is a factory-shrink VHS of Cedric the Entertainer's stand-up special, still carrying its original Blockbuster pricing sticker on the wrap. The Platinum Comedy Series label was the home-video standard-bearer for Black stand-up through the late 1990s and into the 2000s, putting names on tape that HBO and Showtime hadn't always given their own specials. This copy has not been opened.
Cedric Morris was already a known quantity when this hit retail. He came out of St. Louis, built his floor on "Def Comedy Jam" in the early 1990s, and by the time he locked in as one of the Original Kings of Comedy alongside Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac, his style was fully formed: unhurried, wide-audience, church-and-corner-store in the same breath. The Kings of Comedy tour ran 1999 into 2000, Spike Lee's concert film dropped in 2000, and Cedric's solo specials were feeding off that same wave of mainstream crossover energy. The Platinum Comedy Series was releasing these tapes into a market where stand-up on VHS still moved units, before streaming and DVD had pulled the floor out from under the format. A sealed copy from that window is increasingly hard to locate in this condition.
Factory sealed, Comedy Central era, Cedric mid-laugh before the franchise films took over.
The shrink wrap is intact, and the Blockbuster sticker reads clean with no major label damage or adhesive bleed visible through the plastic. Black suit, hat, microphone in hand on the cover art. The tape itself has never run through a deck. For display collectors, a sealed Platinum Comedy Series tape in this shape is a complete artifact. For anyone pulling it to screen, know that a first playback on aging tape always carries some ribbon risk. Run your thumb along the shrink seam at the base of the case before you commit to a player or a frame nail.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm exact special title and release year from the spine or label visible through the shrink wrap.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. y2k tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
