Along Came Polly VHS Tape
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Universal Pictures released "Along Came Polly" in January 2004, and the VHS home video edition hit shelves that same year, right at the tail end of the format's mainstream lifespan. The film stars Ben Stiller as Reuben Feffer, a risk-averse insurance analyst who gets left at the altar and falls into the orbit of his free-spirited junior high classmate Polly Prince, played by Jennifer Aniston. Philip Seymour Hoffman co-stars as Sandy Lyle, the scene-stealing ex-drama kid, and it is Hoffman's performance that people still quote two decades later.
By early 2004, the DVD format had already overtaken VHS in retail sales, which makes this tape a document of the brief overlap period when studios still pressed both formats simultaneously. Universal had the rom-com category dialed in by this point. "American Pie" had wrapped its original trilogy, "Meet the Parents" had proven Stiller was box-office reliable, and the studio was leaning into that chemistry. The cast here also includes Debra Messing, Alec Baldwin, Hank Azaria (playing the reckless French adventure tourist from the opening sequence), and Bryan Brown. Aniston was mid-"Friends" at the time of filming, the show's final season airing across 2003 into May 2004, which made her one of the most recognizable faces in America. That casting context explains why this tape moved at retail. Rodolfo the blind ferret gets a dedicated introducing credit on the sleeve, which is a very specific piece of early-2000s marketing logic, and it read correctly because audiences responded to it.
The movie does not ask much of you, and that is exactly the point.
This copy carries the white sleeve design Universal used for the retail home release. Condition on the tape body and spine will depend on how this one was stored. VHS from this period can present beautifully if kept upright and away from heat; cases can show shelf edge wear on the top spine even when the tape inside is clean. Check the cassette shell for any crack along the seam at the top housing, and hold the case up to the light at the spine corner to gauge whether the cardboard has taken any compression damage. The tape window should be visible and the ribbon inside should sit without sag.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm this is the 2004 Universal retail VHS release and not a rental dub or later reissue, by checking the catalog number on the spine label.

The Rental Counter
Before streaming flattened the difference between movies, VHS was a physical act. Rentals, buybacks, Blockbuster sleeves, promo tapes, ex-rentals with security stickers still on the side. y2k tapes outlived the stores they came from. We keep them in their original cases where possible and note every sticker, sun-fade, and sleeve crease in the photography.
