Vintage Fila Jackie Robinson 42 Snap Back Hat
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Fila made this snapback sometime in the vintage years when licensed MLB headwear was pulling real design muscle into commemorative and tribute drops, and this one centers on the only number retired by every franchise in Major League Baseball at once. Number 42. Black crown, red brim, black embroidery with a red outline on the numeral itself. Fila's name on a baseball cap is not the standard story you hear in hat collecting, which is exactly why this one draws attention on the shelf. The colorway is restrained, almost formal. It lets the number do the work.
Jackie Robinson broke the MLB color barrier on April 15, 1947, suiting up for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field, and the number 42 sat in rotation until Commissioner Bud Selig retired it league-wide on April 15, 1997, the 50th anniversary of that debut. Every player, every franchise, one number gone from circulation permanently. The only exceptions have been players already wearing it before the retirement date, and the annual April 15 observance when the whole league wears it together. Fila was not the dominant MLB headwear licensee the way New Era was cementing its position through the 1990s, so Fila-branded Robinson tribute pieces represent a short production band. They did not flood the market. The Fila label on Robinson headwear carries a different kind of weight than the standard cap-brand story precisely because it is unexpected. Collectors working the tribute end of the MLB cap category will clock it immediately.
Robinson stole home nineteen times and dismantled segregation in a Dodgers uniform.
The construction here is the classic structured snapback build: stiff crown, flat brim, plastic snap closure at the rear. The embroidery on the 42 sits clean with no significant thread pull visible at this stage. The red outline reads sharp against the black crown, which tells you the colorway has held without major fading across however many years this cap has been moving through collections. Crown shape is intact, no soft spots or collapse along the seam lines. Before this one goes home, run a thumb along the underside of the brim where the stitching meets the edge, and check the snap teeth for full engagement across all positions.

The Apparel Rack
The 90s rack is where most of the shop's apparel lives. Team tees, tour shirts, promotional jackets, wrestling pullovers, movie tie-in prints that nobody saved on purpose. vintage production runs were large and the survivors are the ones that dodged the rag bin. Each garment is measured flat, photographed on a neutral ground, and listed against the tag size.
