Vintage El Rey Wool Button Up Flannel Size Medium
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
El Rey wool button-ups are among the most undervalued finds in the mid-century American sportswear category, and this one in a deep red, navy, and black plaid is a reminder of why the name still pulls serious flannel collectors. Made in the USA, heavyweight brushed wool, camp collar construction, size Medium. That combination alone narrows the production to an era when domestic mills were still the default, not the premium exception.
El Rey operated within a dense ecosystem of American workwear and sportswear labels that ran from the late 1940s through the early 1970s, most of them sourcing wool from Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain mills before overseas manufacturing restructured the cost model. The wool flannels from this period have a hand feel that modern synthetic blends cannot replicate. The fiber locks together with use. The plaid stays registered through repeated washing, and the weight gives the garment structure without stiffness. Camp collar flannel shirts in particular were popular across both workwear and resort contexts during the postwar decades, worn open as a light layer in cooler coastal or mountain climates and closed as a standalone top. The colorway here, red and navy against black, is a standard hunting and outdoor plaid palette from the period, durable enough to read as sharp now as it did when it left the mill.
Heavyweight wool flannel built for subzero mornings and high-desert swings, still warm after forty years.
This copy has been worn but retains the qualities that matter in a wool flannel at this age. The plaid registration holds across the front placket, which is one of the first places to drift on lesser construction. The camp collar lies flat without pulling, suggesting the collar canvas has not deteriorated. Size Medium in mid-century American cut typically runs closer to a modern Small-Medium, so the chest and shoulder seam placement are worth checking before committing to a fit. The button construction and the cuff seam stitching are the fastest read on production era and quality grade, so inspect both before you decide.
OWNER VERIFY: Production decade and domestic mill origin confirmed against label construction, interior neck tape, and union or care label markings.

The Apparel Rack
The 90s rack is where most of the shop's apparel lives. Team tees, tour shirts, promotional jackets, wrestling pullovers, movie tie-in prints that nobody saved on purpose. vintage production runs were large and the survivors are the ones that dodged the rag bin. Each garment is measured flat, photographed on a neutral ground, and listed against the tag size.
