Madden NFL 25 for PlayStation 3, released by EA Sports in August 2013 as the 25th anniversary edition of the franchise, with Barry Sanders on the cover. The number on the box is not the season year. It is the edition count. EA shipped this one under a different naming convention to mark a milestone, and Sanders was the right choice to carry it.
Sanders retired from the Detroit Lions in 1999 after ten seasons, and the numbers he left behind still do not add up to a normal football career. 15,269 rushing yards, a single-season record 2,358 in 1997, and the most elusive open-field running the NFL had seen to that point. He walked away at 30, which only sharpened the argument around how high the ceiling actually was. The Lions drafted him in the first round in 1989 out of Oklahoma State, where he had won the Heisman after a season that remains the standard for college ball production. EA had used active players and recent champions on the Madden cover through most of the franchise's run, so anchoring the 25th edition in legacy rather than current-season relevance was a real editorial choice. The anniversary packaging leaned into that, with a throwback presentation that read differently on the shelf than the standard year-title releases on either side of it.

This copy is complete in box, which matters for a console-generation game that is now past the twelve-year mark. PS3 titles from this period cycle in and out of collections with cases missing, manuals absent, and disc trays cracked. A CIB copy in presentable shape is worth checking before it gets separated. The disc itself should be clean, no deep radial scratches. The case spine shows what it shows. Look at the front panel lock tab on the case hinge: that clip breaks before anything else on a PS3 amaray case, and if it is intact, that tells you something real about how this copy was stored.
