NHL Breakaway 98 landed on N64 in 1998 with all 26 teams from the 1997-98 season. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux fill the roster, with Keith Tkachuk on the cover. Full NHL licensing meant accurate rosters, bone-crushing checks, and Season and Playoff modes that justified the cartridge slot. Original and tested, with ready to play.
Acclaim went for kinetic ice physics and faster rushes where EA leaned into spreadsheets.
