The Shop's Top 5 Christmas Movies (Don't At Us)
Argue with us. Here are the five Christmas movies the shop actually watches every year.
- Home Alone (1990). The original. John Hughes writing, Chris Columbus directing, Macaulay Culkin carrying the whole thing at ten years old. Still the blueprint.
- Christmas Vacation (1989). Clark Griswold in the attic. The squirrel. The lights. The ladder. Every scene is a sitcom bit that survived the edit.
- Die Hard (1988). Yes. Christmas Eve. Nakatomi Plaza. Alan Rickman doing the best movie villain of the decade. We will die on this hill.
- Jingle All the Way (1996). Arnold. Turbo Man. The last-minute Christmas run. A personal shop favorite because we usually have at least one Turbo Man doll behind the counter around this time of year.
- A Christmas Story (1983). The leg lamp. The BB gun. Ralphie. It earned the 24-hour TBS marathon fair and square.
Honorable mentions
The Muppet Christmas Carol. The Santa Clause. Elf. Gremlins (Christmas horror is a genre). Scrooged. Mixed Nuts if you like your Christmas weird.
Most of these live on the VHS wall in the shop during December. If we have a title in stock and you are walking in for the first time during the holiday rush, it is as good a reason as any to grab a tape on the way out.
