NES cartridge for "Major League Baseball" by LJN. The standard grey NES cart features the official MLB logo prominently displayed alongside baseball action artwork — a batter at the plate and fielders in action. LJN's distinctive rainbow logo appears at the top. "MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL" in bold text. "America's favorite pastime brought to life" tagline. ©1987 LJN Toys, Ltd. The cartridge has writing on it.
Major League Baseball (1988) by LJN was one of the earliest officially licensed MLB games on the NES — carrying the Major League Baseball logo and team names at a time when most sports games used fictional rosters. LJN — the toy company turned game publisher with the infamous rainbow logo — had a reputation for mediocre licensed games, but their sports titles filled an important gap in the NES library. The game offered all 26 MLB teams of the era (before expansion) with basic batting, pitching, and fielding mechanics. For kids in 1988 who wanted to play as their favorite MLB team on Nintendo, this was one of the only options. Early licensed baseball on the NES, rainbow logo and all.
