Sony PlayStation 2 NBA Live 2001 CIB
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
NBA Live 2001 on PlayStation 2 is an EA Sports basketball title from the first wave of PS2 software, released in 2000 alongside the console's North American launch. Kevin Garnett covers the box, mid-dribble in the Timberwolves gray, which tells you exactly where the NBA was that year: KG had already made four All-Star rosters by 2000, the Wolves were a perennial first-round presence, and EA was leaning into Minnesota's face of the franchise as a marquee draw.
The 2000–01 NBA season is one of the last before the league's center-of-gravity fully shifted. Shaq and Kobe were ascending into their three-peat run with the Lakers. Allen Iverson was about to win MVP and scoring title in 2001. Vince Carter was poster-dunking his way through his second full year. NBA Live 2001 on PS2 captured all of that in a roster build that feels like a photograph of the league right before everything reshuffled. EA's Live series was in direct competition with NBA 2K from Sega's Visual Concepts team, and the pressure showed in good ways: this version shipped with franchise mode depth and real commentary tracks. Updated player ratings were already a talking point in the gaming press that fall. The PS2 version benefited from the hardware bump over the PS1 releases, with tighter animations and load times that held up in head-to-head comparisons at the time. This title came out the same year the PS2 was still nearly impossible to find at retail, which adds an odd footnote to any copy you encounter today.
Garnett in 2000 was peak Minnesota, frozen at the height of his untitled prime.
This copy is complete in box. Disc is present. Case and manual are accounted for as well. That CIB status matters for PS2 games more than most people account for, because the original jewel-style cases cracked easily and manuals were the first thing to disappear. The retail sticker on the cover is still visible, which pegs this as an unaltered original sale copy rather than a resealed or repackaged unit. Condition on the disc itself warrants a close look before anything else: hold the play surface at an angle to the light and check the area near the inner hub, where PS2 optical-read errors almost always originate.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm disc, manual, and original case insert are all present before listing as CIB.

The PlayStation Index
Sony's polygon era rebuilt what a console could look like on a shelf. y2k PlayStation releases shipped with jewel cases, foldout manuals, demo discs, and promotional boxes that were treated as disposable at the time. The ones that held on, through moves and attic boxes and thrift bins, land at the shop with the printing still sharp. We list them with the marks honest.
