SNES NHL 96 in Box
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
NHL 96 by EA Sports on Super Nintendo, complete in box. Released in 1995, this is the cartridge, the box, and the manual together as a unit, which is the exception at this point, not the rule. The cover art puts a New Jersey Devils player against a Detroit Red Wings player, which tracks perfectly with the 1994-95 season's dominant storylines. One copy, here at Container Park.
By 1995, EA Sports had turned SNES hockey into something genuinely good. NHL 94 had set the bar so high that the series carried its reputation into 95 and 96 on name alone, but 96 brought refined skating physics and a deeper season mode that actually rewarded playing the full schedule. The Devils were the right team for the cover. New Jersey won the Stanley Cup in June 1995, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings four games to zero in one of the more dominant Finals runs the sport had seen to that point. Martin Brodeur was 23 years old. Scott Stevens was hitting everything that moved. Putting those two franchises on the box was not arbitrary marketing, it was the story of the season rendered in 16-bit polygon art. The NHLPA license got you real players and real numbers; the NHL team license got you real logos and real colors. Both were in play here.
EA owned the ice in 1995 and this box proves it.
This copy is complete: cartridge, original box, and manual present. Box shows wear consistent with 30 years of storage, corners are soft and there is some creasing along the top edge. The cartridge shell is clean. Manual should be checked for page completeness before you commit. The label on the cartridge face is worth a close look at purchase, specifically the label edges where lifting or peeling sometimes appears on well-handled SNES carts from this period. If the label sits flush and flat with no curling at the corners, that is the condition signal you want.
OWNER VERIFY: Release year confirmed as 1995 for the SNES version of NHL 96.

The Nintendo Archive
This is part of Nintendo's 90s run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.
