SNES John Madden Football ‘93 in Box
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
John Madden Football '93 for Super Nintendo is an EA Sports release from 1992, shipped in box during the franchise's pre-NFL-license years. The cover art is the tell: John Madden himself front and center, that red tie and sideline grin, no team logos anywhere. EA had the man but not the league. Generic city names, generic uniforms. The game sold anyway, because Madden's name was already the whole argument.
By 1992, the Madden franchise had been running on Genesis and PC for three years and the SNES port was the platform's first crack at the series. EA Sports as a label was barely two years old. They had Madden Football, NHL Hockey, and a FIFA prototype in development. The NFL license was still a few years out. That deal came in 1994, which is when team names and real logos finally showed up on cartridges. Until then, you played as the Las Vegas team or the Dallas team with randomized rosters and no commentary to name a real player. Football fans bought it because the physics were genuinely better than the competition and because having Madden's voice call your plays felt like the real thing even when the uniforms were blank. On SNES specifically, the '93 version benefited from the hardware upgrade over the Genesis build, tighter animation cycles, slightly faster load between plays. This is year two of EA on Nintendo hardware and you can feel them figuring out what the SNES could handle.

This copy comes in box, which already puts it in a smaller group than the loose-cart copies that make up most of the surviving stock. The box shows the era's standard chipboard construction. The cartridge itself should seat clean with no label lifting at the corners. If the shrink seal is intact, check the seam line along the bottom edge of the box. Original shrink runs tight with no puckering at the corners. A repro wrap tends to bunch. The instruction manual, if present, will have the EA Sports copyright block on the back inside panel. Pull the manual and check the spine fold for cracking before you commit.
OWNER VERIFY: Confirm whether the shrink wrap is original factory seal or replacement wrap, and whether the manual is present inside the box.

The Nintendo Archive
This is part of Nintendo's 90s run, the era that built the shop's back wall. Nintendo shipped cartridges, plush, promotional oddities, and packaging that most buyers threw out on the way to the game. What survived, mostly by accident, ends up here. Every piece is cleaned, photographed, and listed one at a time. Nothing on the archive shelf is a duplicate.
