Russell Gray Blank Sweater
1 OF 1 · NO RESTOCK
Russell Athletic blank crewneck in heather gray. No graphics, no screenprint, no team mark. Just the base layer the company built its name on, and one of the cleaner examples of it we have held in a while.
Russell Athletic was founded in 1902 in Alexander City, Alabama, and by the time the American sportswear market hit its stride in the late 1980s and through the 1990s, Russell was the default blank behind half the decorated activewear in the country. College bookstores, minor league clubhouses, school athletic departments, fleece mills across the Southeast. The brand ran on volume and consistency, and the quality held across all of it. The woven patch placement, the v-notch collar construction, the ribbed trim gauge: each of those details shifted in small but traceable ways across production runs, which is how buyers who know the line date individual pieces. The fleece weight alone can move the needle by several years depending on the decade. This is not the ultra-heavyweight reverse-weave class. This is the standard crewneck, the one that showed up in every color and every size across decades of American athletics and leisure. In heather gray it is as clean as the form gets. No heathering inconsistency, no discoloration at the collar. The gray reads even across the whole body of the garment, which in a piece that has been worn and washed is not always a given.
Russell put the sweatshirt on the map in 1926, and the blank gray crewneck is still the standard.
This copy is a blank, which means no fading print, no cracked graphic, no team mark fighting the base cloth for your attention. The heather gray has held well. The v-notch sits flat. Ribbing at the cuffs and waistband is intact with no significant stretch distortion. The woven patch at the lower right hem is present and legible, logo crisp, no threading pulled at the border. Fit reads as a boxy, true-to-era American cut, not a modern slim profile, which is exactly the point for anyone building a rotation around vintage blanks. One of one in this configuration at KIC right now. Run your finger along the cuff seam and check for any pulling at the ribbing-to-sleeve join before you commit to the size read.
OWNER VERIFY: Production era (early 1990s vs. late 1990s vs. early 2000s) confirmed against label construction, v-notch stitching detail, and fleece weight.

The Apparel Rack
The 90s rack is where most of the shop's apparel lives. Team tees, tour shirts, promotional jackets, wrestling pullovers, movie tie-in prints that nobody saved on purpose. vintage production runs were large and the survivors are the ones that dodged the rag bin. Each garment is measured flat, photographed on a neutral ground, and listed against the tag size.
